- The Macs (like the Amiga) use non-parity SIMMs. It was the original IBM
- PC that started using parity RAM in 1984; this started the trend of clones
- needing parity RAM. Most new clones have BIOS settings to use non-parity
- memory, or the SIMMs themselves don't actually have parity bits but some
- logic that calculates and "fakes" the parity bit.
